Hi All.



It has just come to our attention that the Wendy Paris mohair yarn used for the Luxury Mohair Sweater on the cover of this month’s Knitting (issue 71), has in fact been discontinued. Unfortunately we were not informed that it had actually been discontinued back in March of this year when we ordered the yarn for this project in September nor when we checked it’s availability for when the issue goes on sale (as we do with all yarns for each issue). We were assured they had plenty in stock and there would be no problem.

Obviously this is not now the case and we are doing all we can to find alternative yarns for those who want to knit this lovely wintry sweater. Wendy have suggested that there may be stockists out there who have some of the Paris Mohair left, and to call them on 01943 872264 where they will endeavour to tell you your nearest stockist with the yarn. Alternatively they are suggesting Wendy Allegra as an alternative. 

Sian Brown, the designer of the sweater, has looked into this and has suggested the following yarns as possible substitutes: Rowan Kidsilk Aura, colour Terracotta 772 or Capricorn Chunky in either Terracotta or Rust. Both these fall within the tension range of the Paris Mohair.

I appreciate this is deeply frustrating for those of you who want to knit this, as it is too for us. I hope this early notification helps people and we would like to apologise for the inconvenience this may cause any of you.

And the Knitting Team

I went to my first knitting workshop on Friday!

As the assistant editor, and a newbie knitter, it seems to be my job to be sent off on random tasks, test driving various things and dutifully writing up my often unintentionally funny adventures. So off I set on Friday morning, into the drizzle with the intention of finding Sue Culligan's cute little yarn shop Kangaroo, in the deepest, darkest Sussex countryside, to partake in a lace, circular knitting workshop held by Debbie Abrahams.

I ended up having a great fun day, not necessarily successful, knitting wise, as I didn't get past round 3 (I'm sure if Debbie hadn't had to keep ripping back my mistakes as shown below I would have been on round 20 by the end of the day but alas it was not to be) but good fun all the same.
